Zadar is a vibrant coastal city in Croatia, blending ancient history with modern charm. Known for its Roman ruins, mediaeval churches, and lively streets, it’s also home to unique attractions like the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun. Surrounded by the stunning Zadar Archipelago, the city serves as a perfect gateway to explore the Adriatic's natural beauty while offering a rich cultural and culinary experience.
Day 1: Zadar - Vrgada - 14 NM
Spend the morning exploring the charming old town part of Zadar. Many churches were built in mediaeval times, and the Church of St. Donatus is one of the city’s famous landmarks.
Be sure to head out to the western side of the old town, where you will find an ingenious invention, a sea organ that uses waves to produce music.
When you’ve explored the city to your heart’s content, check into your charter in the Zadar marina. Sail out to the small island of Vrgada, where you will find buoys for an overnight stay.
If you are interested in a shorter sailing time on your first day, you can anchor in Ždrelac, the largest village on the island of Pašman, located right next to the bridge that connects Pašman with Ugljan.
Day 2: Vrgada - Sali, 15 NM
Set out towards the island of Dugi Otok (Long Island), named so for its length of 43 kilometres.
Enjoy the view of the towering cliffs on the western coast of the island.
Stop for the night in Sali Marina, which has over 80 berths for docking. Sali is a small, charming town, located on the southern part of the island.
Consider exploring the local cuisine and having dinner in the charming tavern ‘Kornati’ in the port of Sali.
Day 3: Sali-Kornati 7 NM
Head south from Dugi Otok to reach National Park Kornati Islands. In order to enter the national park, you will need a ticket for your yacht, which is available for purchase directly in the park or in advance at designated presale points in Zadar.
ACI Marina Piškera is a well-equipped and modern marina, located near the island Piškera on the western side of the national park. With 120 berths, a restaurant, a grocery store, and many other facilities, it can provide you with all the necessities you may require.
Keep in mind when entering the marina from the north that the navigation can be a bit challenging due to the scattered cliffs. Please use your charts or the navigational system as an aid when entering the marina.
You may choose between spending two nights at the Marina Piškera or anchoring in one of two locations—off the main island of Kornat or one of several official anchorages in the Kornati Islands.
Day 4: Kornati Islands National Park 16 NM
Spend the day sailing on the pristine waters and enjoying the tranquil, unspoiled, and uninhabited islands of the Kornati National Park.
Take some time to sightsee the Byzantine ruins and artefacts.
as well as the local flora and fauna. The small coves around the islands are a true gem, and in a few of them you can find taverns that offer jetties to make a stop for lunch or dinner.
Be sure to try grilled seafood and lamb, as they are fantastic local delicacies. Also, try to stock up on some of the local olive oil and jams.
Day 5: Kornati - Skradin - 8 NM
Having set out back toward Zadar, your first destination is Skradin. En route, you will see the fortress of St. Anna, an unmissable sight as it dominates the view of Šibenik from the sea.
Skradin is a charming little town, and there you can stay at the ACI Marina Skradin or choose to take anchor in front of the marina.
Behind Skradin is the entrance to National Park Krka, and in order to enter the park, you can take a water taxi from Skradin that departs every hour. It is not possible to enter the national park with your own yacht.
Spend the day enjoying the famous waterfalls and natural beauty of Krka.
Day 6: Skradin - Zlarin, 15 NM
Go down the river past Šibenik to reach the island of Zlarin.
You may choose between mooring on the quay or using the buoys in front of the village. It’s a very safe and comfortable place to spend the night, with a landscape of pine forests and vineyards.
Zlarin is famous for its corals, and those interested can visit the Coral Museum. A fun fact about Zlarin is that there are no cars on the island.
Day 7: Zlarin -Zadar-32 NM
The route on your last day will take you by Biograd na Moru, also known as ‘the white city by the sea,’ as well as the islands Pašman, Ugljan, and Dugi Otok. Remember to refuel your yacht before returning it and checking out.
