The 2025 sailing season has officially launched along the Croatian coast, and it couldn’t have kicked off with more excitement. With sailors from around the globe gathering for the first regattas of the year, the Adriatic became a stage for competition, camaraderie, and celebration. Among the standout events that set the tone for the months ahead were three remarkable regattas: the CRO Melges 24 Cup, the Skradin Cruiser Regatta, and the Elafiti Slalom.
This dynamic start to the season wasn't just about racing. It was a showcase of Croatia's deep respect for its maritime traditions, a commitment to sustainability, and an investment in the future of the sport. Each regatta told its own story, blending heritage with innovation and sport with stewardship — a combination that continues to attract those interested in both professional sailing and Croatia sailing charter experiences.
Opatija Joins the Elite with the CRO Melges 24 Cup
For the first time, the picturesque town of Opatija played host to a regatta from the prestigious European Melges 24 circuit — marking a historic moment for both the region and Croatia’s sailing reputation. Held from April 3 to 6 at Marina Ičići, this fifth edition of the CRO Melges 24 Cup brought together elite crews from across Europe.
Expertly organised by Yacht Club Croatia, this fiercely competitive event was part of the growing Luka Baustoffe CRO Melges 24 Cup — now considered the most prominent and challenging sailing series in Croatia. Beyond its sporting importance, the regatta also spotlighted Opatija as a rising destination for those seeking a more luxurious way to explore the Adriatic, such as through a customised Croatia sailing charter.
Skradin Opens the Sails on Lake Prokljan
While the coast was buzzing with activity, inland waters weren’t far behind. From April 4 to 6, the Skradin Cruiser Regatta opened the season at Marina Skradin — one of the most scenic marinas in the region. Hosted by the Kon-Tiki Sailing Club, this well-loved regatta drew sailors competing in both the Open and ORC classes, as well as more laid-back crews preferring a spinnaker-free experience.
As always, the event was more than just a race — it was a celebration. Participants gathered not only to compete but also to connect, share stories, and enjoy the beauty of Lake Prokljan. Elafiti Slalom 2025: Speed, Sustainability, and Community
The Elafiti Slalom, held from April 11 to 14, brought over 180 sailors to the shimmering waters of the Elafiti Islands. This regatta stood out for both its high-performance competition and its commitment to environmental responsibility. ClubSwan 36 yachts Tacit Consent and Bracing Breeze captured the crowd's attention with strong performances by Olympic sailor Tonči Stipanović and Croatian national team member Alec Cvinar — securing first and second in the OPEN 3 group.
But it wasn’t just about podium finishes. This year’s event was a true celebration of sustainable sport. Trophies made from recycled plastics collected on the islands were presented to the winners — a joint initiative by Maritimo Recycling and local creative studios BeCraft and Beluga. The regatta highlighted how the Elafiti Islands remain not only a fantastic regatta venue but also a bucket-list stop for any Croatia sailing charter that seeks beauty, culture, and purpose all in one.
