Venice Set the Stage for a Celebration of Excellence at the 20th BOAT International World Superyacht Awards
In May the iconic city of Venice played host to the 20th edition of the prestigious BOAT International World Superyacht Awards. Set against the romantic backdrop of its canals and the shimmering Adriatic, the ceremony honored the most exceptional vessels in the global yachting scene. One of the standout moments of the evening was the recognition of the Mangusta Oceano 39, which triumphed in the category for Displacement Motor Yachts – 499GT and below, 35 to 39.9 meters.
Held annually by BOAT International, a renowned publication dedicated to luxury yachts, these awards shine a spotlight on groundbreaking achievements in yacht design, craftsmanship, and marine engineering. What sets these awards apart is the panel of judges—experienced yacht owners, both current and former—who bring their hands-on insight to the evaluation process.
The win for the Mangusta Oceano 39 reflects the shipyard’s commitment to blending sophisticated design with superior performance. More than just a beautiful yacht, it represents the culmination of decades of innovation and passion from the Mangusta team. This accolade is particularly timely, as it coincides with the company’s 40th anniversary—a fitting milestone that underscores both its rich legacy and forward-looking vision.
Constructed in Viareggio, the Mangusta Oceano 39 is the smallest model in the Oceano displacement range, yet it makes a bold statement. The second hull in the series made its official debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September of last year.
Measuring 39.2 meters in length and 8.5 meters in beam, the yacht has a gross tonnage of 324 GT. Built with a composite hull and a carbon-composite superstructure, she is powered by twin MTU 12V 2000 M86 engines delivering 1,700 horsepower each. This setup allows her to cruise comfortably at 12 knots, reach a top speed of 15 knots, and cover up to 2,250 nautical miles. Onboard, she accommodates 12 guests across five luxurious cabins, along with a crew of seven, ensuring a seamless and indulgent yachting experience.
The exterior design is the work of acclaimed designer Alberto Mancini, working closely with the in-house Mangusta technical team. Together, they created a yacht that offers a fresh, dynamic look and intelligently maximized space. The design emphasizes openness and light, with expansive glass surfaces and a minimalist aesthetic that blurs the line between inside and out.
One of the yacht’s signature design elements includes the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows on the main deck that open up to the sea, while maintaining material and stylistic harmony throughout. The upper deck provides another lounge salon and outdoor relaxation zones, functioning much like a modern veranda with sweeping sea views. A highlight at the bow is the infinity pool with a partially glass bottom, allowing sunlight to filter down into the owner’s suite beneath.
Further enhancing the experience is an 85-square-meter flybridge, fully surrounded by glass, and a beach club area that features fold-down terraces, offering even more space for enjoyment close to the water.
The panel of judges shared their reasoning behind the award, stating:
“Mangusta has successfully reinvented itself, shifting from high-speed yachts to sophisticated long-range cruisers,” noted one judge. The team was particularly impressed by the Oceano 39’s smart use of space, elegant layout, and impressive overall value. They also highlighted the continuity of interior design, where natural teak was used seamlessly across both interior ceilings and exterior decks. The generous use of glass—some of which opens—further strengthens the connection between the yacht’s interior and the surrounding sea.”
