The spotlight at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show shines even brighter with the arrival of Breakthrough, Feadship’s trailblazing 118.8-metre superyacht. Five years in development, this remarkable vessel is more than just a new launch—it represents a decisive step toward a cleaner future in large-scale yachting.
Commissioned with one pressing question from her visionary owner—“How green can you make her?” — Breakthrough embodies a pioneering answer. Instead of relying on conventional diesel, Feadship engineered a hydrogen fuel-cell system capable of powering both propulsion between harbours and the yacht’s full hotel load. The system eliminates combustion entirely, leaving only pure water as its byproduct.
Perhaps the greatest challenge lay in storing liquid hydrogen safely at -253°C within a luxury yacht environment. Feadship, working alongside De Voogt Naval Architects and RWD, devised a solution that balances practicality with ambition—placing Breakthrough firmly at the cutting edge of sustainable marine engineering.
With her 17-knot top speed, a range of 6,500 nautical miles, and generous proportions—19 metres in beam and 15 staterooms accommodating up to 22 guests—Breakthrough is as formidable in luxury as she is in innovation. Designed inside and out by RWD, the yacht blends elegance with advanced technology, offering 389 feet of forward-looking design.
As Feadship’s largest new delivery of 2025 and one of the world’s most significant hydrogen-powered vessels, Breakthrough stands among the top 5% of yachts worldwide by length. Listed for sale with Edmiston, she is expected to draw intense interest at Port Hercule, where industry leaders, enthusiasts, and potential buyers will witness first-hand a milestone in yachting history.
In every sense, Breakthrough lives up to her name—setting new standards for scale, sustainability, and the future of luxury at sea.
