In August 2025, Lürssen introduced its latest creation to the world—the 114-meter superyacht COSMOS. Far from an ordinary launch, this vessel redefines what modern yacht building can be, combining sheer scale with a design language that feels both timeless and futuristic. With exterior and interior styling by Marc Newson, COSMOS is already being spoken of as a future icon of the seas.
“This project carries particular weight as it coincides with our 150th anniversary,” remarked Peter Lürssen at the launch. “Every yacht we deliver is unique, but a select few become milestones in our history. COSMOS belongs to that category.”
The commission came from an owner with an adventurous spirit and a vision for something that would stand apart from the fleet of today. Newson responded with an all-encompassing concept—from the overall sculptural form to the smallest fittings—executed with his characteristic boldness. The result is a yacht that challenges norms while maintaining perfect harmony between innovation and elegance.
“Having the freedom to oversee every element of the project was a rare and rewarding experience,” Newson explained. “The client encouraged us to push beyond established boundaries, and that sense of creative liberty gave the design a natural, organic progression. The outcome is a yacht that feels coherent, daring, and distinctly our own.”
Among its defining features is a spectacular glass-domed owner’s study, positioned high above the decks and linked to a private sky terrace. The dome itself required cutting-edge glass engineering, with Lürssen developing bespoke techniques to bend large, ultra-clear glass panels without distortion. The result is a panoramic 360-degree viewpoint unmatched in yachting.
Glass plays an equally prominent role elsewhere on board: a continuous glass belt encircles the upper deck cabins, while a forward observation lounge beneath the helipad and an aft balcony with glass railings provide uninterrupted vistas of sea and sky.
The aft deck balances leisure and practicality, with a large pool and Jacuzzi as its centerpiece, ample lounging areas, and an innovative dry dock system capable of launching the yacht’s primary tender.
Built to travel the globe, COSMOS spans six decks and carries Ice Class 1D certification, allowing her to safely navigate icy waters. Her design makes it possible to venture into all corners of the world, from polar regions to tropical seas.
In line with the owner’s progressive outlook, COSMOS will also serve as a testbed for a pioneering methanol fuel cell system. The installation converts methanol into hydrogen, which is then transformed into electrical power—a technically demanding innovation that could shape the future of sustainable superyachting.
