A new chapter in Dutch yacht building has begun with the launch of Project Tanzanite, the largest Amels Full Custom superyacht ever constructed. At 120 metres in length and boasting 6,083 gross tonnes, this extraordinary vessel is now entering her final outfitting phase at Damen Yachting’s primary facility in Vlissingen.
The yacht first touched water in Galati, Romania, in 2023 before being transported to the Netherlands for the next stage of construction. Recently, she was carefully floated inside the shipyard’s dock, marking a crucial step toward her completion.
Over the next 12 months, more than a thousand specialists from Damen Yachting and its international network of suppliers will contribute their craftsmanship to ensure the yacht’s delivery, scheduled for 2026.
Designed by celebrated naval architect Espen Øino, Project Tanzanite represents the pinnacle of tailor-made yacht design. Signed in 2020, the project will become the flagship of the Amels fleet once completed, underscoring Damen Yachting’s position at the forefront of innovation and luxury yacht construction.
Key features of this five-deck giant include a maximum speed of 18 knots, a transoceanic range of 6,000 nautical miles, accommodation for 22 guests, and quarters for a crew of 48. Her striking exterior lines are paired with advanced naval architecture from Damen Yachting, blending elegance with engineering excellence.
Equipped with a state-of-the-art diesel-electric propulsion system driving Kongsberg Elegance® pods, Tanzanite has been designed to minimise environmental impact. She will also operate with record-low noise and vibration levels for a vessel of her size, setting a new benchmark in sustainable luxury at sea.
With her scale, technology, and pedigree, Project Tanzanite not only redefines the Amels brand but also solidifies the Netherlands’ reputation as one of the world’s great superyacht-building nations.
