Ferrari is taking its performance philosophy beyond the racetrack with Hypersail, a radical new sailing project that brings the company’s engineering culture into the world of offshore yacht racing.
The project centres on a 100-foot ocean-racing monohull prototype designed to rise above the water and sail on three points of contact. Unlike a conventional racing yacht, Hypersail uses an advanced foiling system intended to deliver stable flight across open sea conditions.
One of the yacht’s most distinctive technical features is the connection between a foil and the canting keel. Stability is managed through a combination of the rudder and the side foils, which work alternately depending on sailing conditions. The result is a highly experimental platform built around speed, balance and efficiency.
Ferrari Performance Moves Offshore
Hypersail marks an ambitious step for Ferrari, transferring its racing knowledge into an entirely new environment. The aim is not simply to create a fast yacht, but to explore how automotive performance engineering can influence the future of ocean sailing.
The design reflects Ferrari’s motorsport identity, with clean, purposeful lines shaped by aerodynamics, efficiency and technical function. Every detail is intended to support performance, in the same way Ferrari’s racing cars are shaped by the demands of speed and control.
A Fully Foiling Yacht with Energy Autonomy
Innovation is central to the Hypersail concept. Ferrari describes the yacht as a full-foiling monohull designed for offshore navigation, combining advanced sailing architecture with technologies developed through the company’s wider engineering expertise.
A key part of the project is energy independence. Solar panels are built into the deck and hull sides, positioned after detailed studies of how the yacht will be exposed to sunlight while at sea. This system is intended to support the vessel’s onboard energy needs and reduce dependence on external power sources during navigation.
A Livery Linking Heritage and Technology
The yacht’s visual identity also connects Ferrari’s past with its future. Hypersail introduces Giallo Fly, a vivid yellow tone that recalls the importance of yellow in Ferrari’s historic colour palette.
This bright accent is contrasted with exposed carbon fibre, reinterpreted through a custom shade called Grigio Hypersail. The grey finish is not only a styling choice but also a reference to the lightweight materials and performance-focused construction behind the project.
A New Chapter for Ferrari
According to Ferrari Chairman John Elkann, Hypersail is being developed as a unique boat that will “fly across the oceans” while opening new possibilities for innovation in both the nautical and automotive sectors.
With Hypersail, Ferrari is entering unfamiliar waters, but with a familiar objective: to push technology, design and performance beyond established limits.
