The catamaran market has a new heavyweight contender hailing from the shores of Cape Town. After several years where the Voyage 590 was the company's flagship and sole focus, South African boat builder Voyage Yachts has expanded its horizon with the launch of the Voyage 510. This cruising catamaran, recently showcased in a detailed review by the YouTube channel Multihulls World, is designed to balance the rugged requirements of the open ocean with the luxury expected in modern social cruising and charter operations.
Tested in the Extreme Conditions of Cape Town
To truly understand the capabilities of the Voyage 510, sea trials were conducted in the highly variable waters off Cape Town. The vessel was put to the test in contrasting scenarios, ranging from light winds to intense gusts exceeding 35 knots. Throughout these tests, the catamaran demonstrated a reassuring behavior, proving its architecture is prioritized for stability and ease of operation.
Supporting its sailing prowess is a reliable auxiliary propulsion system consisting of two 57 horsepower Yanmar diesel engines equipped with shaft drives. With a substantial fuel capacity of 900 liters, the Voyage 510 offers an estimated motoring range of approximately 700 nautical miles, making it an ideal choice for maintaining strict itineraries during calm conditions or harbor maneuvers.
Seamless Social Spaces and Ergonomic Design
One of the standout features of the Voyage 510 is its commitment to "social cruising". The layout is anchored by an open-plan saloon that connects naturally with the aft cockpit, creating a unified central living area for the entire crew. Unique to this model is a forward access door leading to an adjoining cockpit, further enhancing the flow of movement across the deck.
On the upper level, the flybridge serves as a primary social hub, allowing multiple guests to gather without feeling constrained. Meanwhile, the helm station is positioned to provide the skipper with unobstructed visibility while maintaining a close connection to the guests in the living spaces.
Luxury Accommodations and Functional Interior
The interior of the Voyage 510 is defined by its generous volumes and functional organization. Key features include:
- Headroom: The living spaces boast a ceiling height exceeding 2 meters throughout.
- The Galley: Designed for high-capacity hosting, the galley can prepare meals for 8 to 10 people, featuring extensive work surfaces and ample storage that remains practical even while underway.
- Cabin Configurations: Owners can choose between three or four-cabin layouts, with the additional option of two crew cabins in the bow. Every cabin follows modern luxury standards, featuring its own en-suite bathroom.
A New Chapter for Voyage Yachts
The launch of the 510 coincides with a significant upgrade in Voyage Yachts’ production capabilities. The company has relocated its headquarters to modernized premises in Cape Town, designed specifically to optimize the logistics and industrial efficiency required to build large, high-quality multihulls.
With its blend of South African robustness and thoughtful Mediterranean-style comfort, the Voyage 510 marks a triumphant return for the shipyard, offering a versatile platform for both private owners and the global charter industry.
