The Finnish boatbuilder Quarken has established a formidable reputation for constructing robust, all-weather cabin boats, but their latest offering, the Quarken 35 Sport Tourer, reveals a more open and athletic side of the brand. In a comprehensive video tour by Hugo Andrea for Motor Boat & Yachting, this vessel is described as a "clever Scandi stunner" that balances high-performance engineering with remarkable practicality. Starting at approximately €250,000, the 35 Sport Tourer is designed to excel in both the sun-drenched Mediterranean and the cooler climates of Northern Europe.
High Performance and Scandinavian Engineering
At the heart of the Quarken 35 Sport Tourer is a standard twin 300 horsepower Yamaha outboard setup, which propels the boat to a top speed of roughly 45 knots. For those seeking even more adrenaline, an upgrade to twin 350 hp engines is available, pushing the vessel past the 50-knot mark.
Beyond raw speed, the boat is engineered for long-distance efficiency. It features a 700-liter fuel tank, providing a cruising range of approximately 250 to 280 nautical miles when maintained at a steady pace of 27–28 knots. This combination of speed and endurance makes it a highly capable weekend cruiser for those looking to explore distant coastlines.
Innovative Deck Layout and Social Spaces
One of the most striking features of the 35 Sport Tourer is its asymmetric deck design. Unlike traditional walkaround boats, Quarken has optimized the space by providing a deep, secure walkway on one side, while extending the cockpit all the way to the edge on the other to maximize internal volume.
The cockpit serves as the social hub of the boat, featuring:
- Folding Terraces: The side benches manually drop down to create expanded seating and open up the view.
- Massive Aft Sunpad: This area doubles as a massive storage facility, accessible via an electric lift, capable of housing water toys and supplies.
- Convertible Seating: The helm seat can flip to face the rear, and the cockpit table unfolds to accommodate six to eight guests.
- Fully Equipped Wet Bar: The unit includes a sink, multiple drawers, and options for an induction hob or grill, alongside dedicated refrigeration.
Overhead, a sturdy hardtop provides essential shade and houses integrated speakers and LED lighting, while a soft-touch fabric finish prevents the interior from feeling "spartan".
A Cabin Designed for More Than Just Day Trips
Despite its "Sport Tourer" designation, the interior volume is surprisingly generous. The bow area contains a 6-foot wide bed, which feels exceptionally spacious due to the asymmetric hull design that eliminates the walkaround deck on one side, thereby increasing headroom and width.
The cabin also includes:
- Natural Light: Narrow side windows and a large overhead skylight ensure the space is bright and airy.
- Occasional Berth: A secondary seating area can be converted into a small bed, ideal for a child.
- Separate Wet Room: Unusually for a boat of this style, there is a separate heads compartment that functions as a wet room, complete with a freshwater shower and a dedicated seat.
Versatility for Every Climate
The Quarken 35 Sport Tourer is uniquely adaptable. While the bow features a luxurious triple sunbed perfect for hot weather, the boat remains a true all-season vessel. A sophisticated canopy system allows the entire cockpit and aft area to be fully enclosed, effectively sealing off the deck from the elements.
This versatility—combined with practical touches like black anodized grab rails, easy-access anchor lockers with integrated cushions, and a bow thruster for easy maneuvering—makes the Quarken 35 Sport Tourer a standout choice for boaters who refuse to let the weather dictate their time on the water.
