HanseYachts AG supported the Germany SailGP Team during the ROCKWOOL Germany Sail Grand Prix in Sassnitz on the Baltic coast on 22 and 23 August, as the team delivered its first-ever two race wins at a single SailGP event.
The international championship is raced aboard identical F50 hydrofoiling catamarans, which can reach speeds of around 100 km/h. Rather than sailing through the water in the traditional sense, the boats rise onto their foils and effectively fly above the surface.
The Germany SailGP Team is led on the water by Erik Kosegarten-Heil.
Home crowd success in Sassnitz
Representatives of HanseYachts AG were on site to support the team during the event in Sassnitz. Racing in front of its home crowd, the German crew gave supporters plenty to celebrate with two race victories over the weekend.
For HanseYachts AG, the visit offered a chance to experience a different side of sailing while supporting the team directly from the shore.
A shared passion for being on the water
“We were keeping our fingers crossed throughout the weekend and were very happy to see the strong results of our team,” said Holger Passauer, CFO of HanseYachts AG.
“SailGP is an extreme water sport and, in many ways, very different from what we do at HanseYachts AG every day. But there is one thing that clearly connects us: a great passion for being on the water.”
The partnership links recreational yachting with one of the most technologically advanced forms of competitive sailing, even if the boats, purposes and speeds are very different.
More races ahead in the 2026 season
The Sassnitz weekend marked a strong showing for the Germany SailGP Team, but more racing remains in the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship.
HanseYachts AG said it looks forward to following the team through the next events and wished Erik Kosegarten-Heil and the Germany SailGP Team success for the rest of the season.
