Dufour Unveils the New 39: A Fresh Step in 12-Meter Sailing
Dufour has officially presented its latest sailboat model, the brand-new Dufour 39, following months of development and new brand investment. As showcased in the official walkthrough video Dufour 39, this new model brings unprecedented customization to the under 12-meter sailboat market. Designed by naval architect Umberto Felci with interior styling by Luca Ardizio, the Dufour 39 is built for day trips, long cruises, or competitive regattas.
New Hull Design, Signature Features, and Improved Handling
The Dufour 39 features an entirely new hull with an overall length of 12 meters and a width of 4.10 meters. Dufour stands out in the under 15-meter cruiser market as the only brand offering fully equipped hulls across its entire line. The yacht retains a single rudder configuration to ensure improved maneuverability and optimal helm balance. A key signature of the brand is the 4° mast rake. First introduced on the Dufour 48, an integrated roof window in the cabin top fills the forward cabin with natural light.
Three Configurations for Different Sailing Styles
The core concept of the Dufour 39 lies in its high level of versatility, allowing owners to adapt the yacht to their specific sailing program. In its Easy / Standard version, the sailboat features a minimalist layout with an open cockpit, providing an accessible baseline that serves as a neutral foundation for further customization. For sailors prioritizing comfort, the Ocean / Comfort version integrates luxury features typically found on larger yachts, including a transom platform, a plancha grill with a sink, a cockpit table, helm seats, and a central seating area. Alternatively, the Performance version equips the vessel for active crewed sailing with 6 winches, a cockpit-mounted mainsail track, and a square-top mainsail for increased sail area.
Spacious Interior, Flexible Layout, and Practical Onboard Living
Inside, the Dufour 39 offers a spacious saloon that comfortably accommodates six people, with an optional conversion into a double berth. The saloon features a large linear galley with a generous work surface, an 85-liter refrigerator, and an optional 40-liter extension. Following the design seen on the Dufour 48 and 54, all central boat management systems are located within this area. Careful attention to lighting and glazing creates a bright and welcoming atmosphere throughout the interior. The forward cabin offers a light-filled space with a double bed. Owners can select between two interior arrangements: a two-cabin version with bow storage, a starboard head, and a portside wet locker that can convert into a separate shower, or a three-cabin version that adds a portside aft cabin.
Technical Specifications and Customization Options
In terms of technical specifications, the Dufour 39 has a standard displacement of 8.6 tons. Fuel capacity is set at 160 liters, while standard fresh water capacity is 160 liters, with an optional 180-liter expansion available. The sailboat comes standard with a 30 HP sail drive engine, with an optional upgrade to 45 HP. For enhanced onboard comfort and autonomy, the yacht can be equipped with a 6 kVA generator and a 20,000 BTU air conditioning system. Owners can choose between a standard keel with a 1.95-meter draft or a shallow draft keel at 1.55 meters. The sail plan includes a 40 m² mainsail, paired with either a 34 m² genoa or a 28 m² self-tacking jib, as well as a Code 0 sail. Overall, the Dufour 39 delivers an exceptional level of customization tailored to any sailing project.
