Fairline has officially brought back its iconic GTO name with the launch of the new Fairline Targa 58 GTO, a yacht designed to emphasize power, sport performance, and modern luxury. Built on the proven hull and lower deck layout of the Squadron 58 Flybridge, it introduces a completely new superstructure developed in-house. In a sea trial and review by Jack Haines for YachtBuyer, the nearly 18-meter sports cruiser was tested to see whether its performance lives up to its bold styling.
Open-Air Living and Smart Deck Design
Measuring just under 18 meters in length and 4.99 meters in beam with the hydraulic balconies lowered, the Targa 58 GTO is built to maximize outdoor entertainment and usable space. The foredeck includes a flexible lounge area with ratchet backrests, phone storage slots, and an optional folding table that tucks away behind the sofa for protection from the weather.
Aft, the cockpit expands with drop-down side balconies, increasing the total deck area to 27 square meters and creating a stronger connection to the water. Integrated strip lighting and a hammock mounting option add to the social atmosphere. Beneath the aft sun pad, the tender garage fits a Williams 325 tender and can be transformed into a mini beach club with a flush teak runway, overhead shower, built-in speakers, and a dedicated drinks fridge.
Interior Comfort and Flexible Social Spaces
A Besenzoni drop-down window system links the cockpit and saloon, lowering fully in seconds to merge the indoor and outdoor living areas. The exterior galley is equipped with a grill and sink, plus pull-out fridges and an integrated TV facing the cockpit for easy entertaining.
Inside the main saloon, protected by an electric glass sunroof, the yacht features satin walnut cabinetry and Fairline’s signature fluted wood paneling. The onboard amenities include an induction hob, programmable fridge and freezer drawers, an optional dishwasher, and an electronically height-adjustable dining table, all designed to support comfortable long stays on board.
Three-Cabin Layout and Strong Performance at Sea
The lower deck offers accommodation across three cabins with generous headroom throughout. The full-beam owner’s cabin sits amidships and includes a large double bed, panoramic hull windows, a vanity bureau, a full-length mirror, and a private ensuite bathroom. Forward, the VIP cabin features a fixed double bed, ample locker storage, built-in wireless phone charging pads, and direct access to the day head.
A twin guest cabin includes electronically sliding beds that can be joined at the touch of a button, while a companionway locker houses a washer and dryer. Power comes from twin 1000 hp Volvo D13 shaft-drive engines, which pushed the yacht to a top speed of 32 knots during the YachtBuyer trial, with a cruising speed of 25 knots. The helm includes up to three Garmin displays, an adjustable helm seat, joystick control, bow and stern thrusters, and a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer. YachtBuyer praised the yacht’s responsive handling and awarded the Fairline Targa 58 GTO a five-star rating.
