In a video review presented by Hugo Andreae for Motor Boat & Yachting, yachting enthusiasts get an inside look at Far Niente, a unique superyacht built in 2024 that combines vintage aesthetics with cutting-edge marine engineering. Currently listed for sale at approximately €10.5 million through Carswood Yachts, this 107-foot vessel offers a rare blend of historical charm and modern luxury. Built at the SCES shipyard in Turkey with naval architecture by Hoek in Holland, Far Niente features a heavy displacement steel hull styled after an early 20th-century North Sea herring lugger. Despite her traditional lines, she is engineered to the highest contemporary standards and designed for transatlantic, long-range cruising.
A Classic Exterior Inspired by History
Far Niente stands out on the water with sweeping curved teak decks that slope down toward the center and rise again toward the bow. Her superstructure features a cold-molded wooden wheelhouse, tall bulwarks topped with lacquered rails, traditional round portholes, and open freeboards designed to drain water efficiently. At 22 feet wide with a gross tonnage of 179 GT, the yacht provides vast exterior relaxation areas, including a full Portuguese bridge and an unusually open upper deck equipped with a teak dining table and director's chairs. The forward deck houses a crane with space for two 6.5-meter tenders, heavy-duty anchor gear, and a built-in teak bench, while the rounded stern features comfortable seating around occasional tables. Even her central traditional-style funnel serves a practical modern purpose by housing deck storage.
Fresh, Modern Luxury on the Inside
While the exterior pays homage to classic ships, the interior of Far Niente is surprisingly fresh, bright, and modern. Stepping into the main saloon reveals a light color scheme of grays, blues, and pale whites, enhanced by a tongue-and-groove deckhead and an open-plan design free of central bulkheads. The main deck features a long dining table with built-in wine fridges, a day head, and a stylish lounge where a large television is tastefully disguised within custom shelving. Up to ten guests are accommodated across five generous ensuite cabins, led by a main deck master suite that offers panoramic views, a hidden television, and a spacious bathroom. The lower deck houses two double cabins and two twin cabins with high ceilings, connected by a central hallway reminiscent of an old-school ocean liner.
Intelligent Engineering and Sustainable Range
Below deck, Far Niente achieves remarkable efficiency through an unconventional propulsion setup. Instead of a typical twin-engine configuration, the yacht relies on a single 500-horsepower, six-cylinder MAN engine powering a single screw, allowing her to cruise quietly at 8 to 9.5 knots while consuming just 55 to 60 liters of fuel per hour. Powerful twin hydraulic thrusters at the bow and stern provide precise control when maneuvering into docks. Designed with high redundancy, her vast engine room houses twin 35 kW Kohler generators, a desalination system, a fuel polishing setup, and advanced sewage treatment that allows clean discharge anywhere in the world. Furthermore, a dedicated urea tank significantly reduces engine emissions, giving her 5-fuel-tank capacity a transatlantic cruising range that makes her as environmentally conscious as she is elegant.
